Scaling MATLAB on RTU HPC: A Hands-On Workshop for Latvian Academics and Researchers

Researchers, academics and SME’s from Latvia are invited to participate in the hands-on workshop “Scaling MATLAB on RTU HPC”, taking place on 10 November 2026, from 10:00 to 13:00 EEST at the Riga Technical University Science and Innovation Centre in Riga.

Organised in collaboration with the Latvian HPC Competence Centre (NCC Latvia), RTU HPC Centre, and MathWorks, this in-person workshop will provide participants with practical experience in running MATLAB parallel computing workloads on the RTU HPC supercomputer. Attendees will learn how to leverage multicore processors and GPUs to solve compute- and data-intensive research problems more efficiently.

During the workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Optimising MATLAB code using multiple CPU cores.
  • Scaling applications and model training on GPUs.
  • Working with large datasets in MATLAB.
  • Submitting and managing MATLAB jobs on the RTU HPC cluster.
  • Configuring parallel cluster access through the MATLAB graphical interface.
  • Applying best practices for parallel computing in research environments.
  • Receiving one-on-one consultation on their MATLAB projects from MathWorks experts.

Participants will access the RTU HPC supercomputer using their own laptops, submit MATLAB jobs, and retrieve results while working through practical examples and real-world scenarios.

The workshop is intended for Latvian academics, researchers and SME’s working with data-intensive or compute-intensive projects who wish to make effective use of national supercomputing resources. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the online webinar “Parallel Computing with MATLAB” on 7 September 2026, which provides the foundational knowledge needed to benefit fully from this advanced hands-on training.

The session will be delivered in English by Raymond Norris, Application Engineer at MathWorks. With more than 30 years of experience at MathWorks, Raymond leads initiatives focused on integrating MATLAB parallel computing tools with HPC and cloud environments and regularly delivers workshops on high-performance computing and MATLAB parallelisation.
