HPC demonstrations will be seen at the World Congress of Latvian Scientists
As the concluding event of the Open HPC Week, colleagues from RTU HPC Center and HPC Competence Center “SuperS” will demonstrate HPC solutions to scientists at the World Congress of Latvian Scientists. The event will occur at the National Library of Latvia on June 28 from 10:00 to 16:00 in the section Exhibition of Digital Products Made by Latvians or in Latvia.
Three examples where the HPC (High-Performance Computing) cluster was used will be showcased throughout the day.
Demo one: how to catch microwaves in the air
During this demonstration, Romans Kusnins from Riga Technical University’s Faculty of Electronics and Communications will answer questions, such as how to catch microwaves floating in the air to produce energy and how can modeling on HPC byusing Monte-Carlo method help SMEs to create new products or improve the existing ones.

Demo two: computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
Sabine Upnere from Riga Technical University’s Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Strength of Materials will demonstrate two examples of using an HPC for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The examples demonstrate the results of modeling two cooling systems. In the first example, she will show the cooling of a heated composite plate using a microchannel. Such plates supplemented with microchannels are used for cooling electric car batteries. The second example models the flow and the resulting vibrations in a cooling system consisting of many cylindrical rods. Such structures are found in heating systems and scientific equipment such as proton beam targets.
Demo three: using HPC to model fixators for medical purposes
Aleksandrs Gutcaits from Riga Technical University and a team from OrthoHPC project (FF4EuroHPC/H2020) will demonstrate how to start using an HPC. CastPrint will demonstrate the 3D printed fixators and the visualization from the modeling process.
