Representatives from public administration are invited to the HPC afternoon on June 27
How can supercomputers or High-Performance Computing (HPC) resources increase energy efficiency? How to predict river and sea erosion or model floods? We invite those working in the state and local government sectors to an informative free seminar, which will be held at the Riga Technical University (RTU) as part of the “Open HPC Week 2023”.
At the seminar, everyone will be able to learn how the use of HPC resources could make work easier when working in the public sector, what possibilities a supercomputer offers, and how to start working on it practically. Before the event, those interested will have the opportunity to visit the Data Center and see what the HPC resources of major universities look like, including the RTU supercomputer “Rudens”, and how much space they take.
The HPC afternoon for public administration will be useful for municipal specialists, engaged experts and companies with or without initial experience in using supercomputer power, municipal and national policy makers, engineers, users of digital technologies, optimizers and forecasters of complex systems, building authority specialists, IT specialists, as well as those interested in medicine, energy efficiency, agriculture, bio-economy, construction, geodesy, materials research, and 3D model development. The seminar will be useful for everyone who deals with big data arrays, model the compliance of technical solutions with European Union standards in various areas, monitor changes in buildings, as well as for those who want to work or are already working with artificial intelligence solutions for regional, urban environment and for the needs of sustainable rural development.

This is the third year that “Open HPC Week” has been held in Latvia at the end of June. It is implemented with EuroHPC within the framework of the project “National Competence Centers EuroHPC” (EuroCC 2). The event is organized by the HPC competence center “SuperS” in cooperation with the Riga Technical University’s (RTU) HPC center and the Institute of Numerical Modeling of the University of Latvia (LU).
During the “Open HPC Week” there will be several informative events taking place:
- On June 21 – informative seminar for EDIHs (European Digital Innovation Hubs in Latvia: IT cluster and Latvian Digital Accelerator);
- On June 27 – Business Breakfast for SMEs;
- On June 27 – informative afternoon for public administration and governmental representatives;
- On June 28 – participation at the World Congress of Latvian Scientists along with the RTU HPC Center, with demonstrations of HPC examples of solutions.
